He did not talk about change; he lived a life that showed it.
புது வீட்டில் ஒரு இறுதி மரியாதைA farewell in a brand-new house
நெல்லிக்குப்பத்தில் புது வீடு கட்டிக் குடிபோய் ஒரு மாதம் கூட ஆகவில்லை. அது ஒரு மழைக்காலம். வயதான உறவினர் ஒருவர் இறந்துவிட்டார். அவருடைய மகள் ஒரு அரசுப் பள்ளி ஆசிரியை. இறந்தவரின் வீடு ஒரு குறுகிய சந்துக்குள் இருந்ததால், மழையில் ஆசிரியர்கள் வந்து அஞ்சலி செலுத்துவது கடினம் என்று அவர் நினைத்தார்.
அவர் என்ன செய்தார் தெரியுமா? தன் புது வீட்டிலேயே அந்த உடலைக் கொண்டு வந்து வைத்தார். “புது வீட்டிலேயே பிணமா?” என்று ஊர் மக்கள் பதறினார்கள், தடுத்தார்கள். ஆனால் அவர் பார்த்தது மக்களின் பேச்சை அல்ல — மனிதர்களின் சிரமத்தை.
Barely a month after he moved into his newly built house in Nellikuppam, during the rainy season, an elderly relative passed away. The relative's daughter was a government school teacher, and the family home stood in a narrow lane where her colleagues would struggle to come and pay their respects in the rain.
So what did he do? He brought the body to his own new house. The village was alarmed — a body in a brand-new home? — and tried to stop him. But he was not listening to what people would say; he was looking at what people were going through.
சமூகம் கட்டியிருந்த தேவையற்ற வேலிகளை அவர் ஒவ்வொன்றாக உடைத்தார். பழைய பாதையில் நடந்தவர் அல்ல — புதிய பாதையை உருவாக்கியவர்!One by one he broke down the needless fences society had built. He did not walk the old road — he made a new one!
அறிவுப் பொக்கிஷம்Intellectual
எதைச் செய்தாலும் மேல்மட்டத்தில் நின்றுவிடமாட்டார்; “இதன் நுணுக்கம் என்ன?” என்று உள்ளே சென்று தெரிந்துகொள்வார். பொறியாளரின் துணையின்றி, தன் வீட்டையும் நிறுவனக் கட்டிடங்களையும் தாமே திட்டமிட்டு வடிவமைத்தார். செய்தித்தாளை ஒரு வரி கூட விடாமல் படிப்பார்; புத்தகம் படிப்பது அவரது தினசரிப் பழக்கம். உலகம் என்ன செய்கிறது, ஏன் செய்கிறது என்று தொடர்ந்து கற்றுக்கொண்டே இருப்பார். வயது முதிர்ந்தாலும், கற்றுக்கொள்ளும் ஆர்வத்துக்கு முடிவே இல்லை.
Whatever he did, he never stopped at the surface; he went in to understand how it really worked. Without an engineer, he planned and designed his own home and his institutions' buildings. He read the newspaper without skipping a line, and reading books was a daily habit. He kept learning what the world was doing and why. His years grew; his hunger to learn never ended.

தனக்கென வாழாதவர்Selfless
அவர் பாக்கெட்டில் பணம் இருந்தால் அது நீண்ட நேரம் அங்கே இருக்காது; யாருக்காவது தேவை என்றால் அவர்களிடம் போய்ச் சேரும். ஒரு கிராமத்துக்குப் போனால் “எத்தனை பேர் வருவார்கள்?” என்று கேட்கமாட்டார்; “எத்தனை பேருக்குக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்?” என்றுதான் எண்ணுவார். வசதியானவரோ, ஏழையோ — அவருடைய பார்வையில் மனிதன் என்ற ஒரே அடையாளம்.
Money never stayed long in his pocket; if someone needed it, it went to them. Visiting a village, he never asked how many people would come — only how many he should give to. Rich or poor, in his eyes everyone carried one identity: a human being.
“என்னிடம் என்ன இருக்கிறது?” என்று அவர் கேட்டதில்லை; “என்னால் இன்னொருவருக்கு என்ன செய்ய முடியும்?” என்றுதான் கேட்டார்.
He never asked “What do I have?” He asked, “What can I do for someone else?”
அது பழக்கம் அல்ல — அது அவரது இயல்பு.
It was not a habit — it was his nature.

பாதை போட்ட முன்னோடிTrailblazer
உயர்கல்வி எல்லோருக்கும் எட்டாத காலத்தில் அவர் பெரம்பலூரில் விதைத்த கல்வி விதை, இன்று எண்ணற்ற மாணவர்களின் வாழ்க்கைக்குப் பாதையாக வளர்ந்திருக்கிறது.
At a time when higher education was out of most people's reach, he planted a seed of learning in Perambalur. Today it has grown into a road for countless students' lives.
இன்று பெரம்பலூர் கல்வியில் முன்னேறி நிற்கிறது என்றால், அவர் விதைத்த முதல் விதையும் அதற்கு ஒரு காரணம்.
If Perambalur stands tall in education today, the first seed he sowed is one of the reasons.

Some people are simply in a crowd. When Dr. M. Christopher arrived, the crowd turned to him!
மேடையில் அவர் காட்டிய அந்த ஈர்ப்பு பயிற்சியால் வந்ததல்ல; கடவுள் இயற்கையாகக் கொடுத்த வரம். அதுவே அவரது வசீகரம்.
The pull he had on a stage did not come from training; it was a natural gift from God. That was his charm.

கொள்கையாளர்Principled
அவர் வாழ்க்கையில் ஒரு விஷயம் மட்டும் பேரம் பேசப்படவே இல்லை — அது கொள்கை!
One thing in his life was never up for bargaining — his principles!

பல லட்சம் ரூபாய் — ஒரு பெண்ணின் வாழ்க்கைLakhs of rupees, and one young woman's life
ஒருவர் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் ஒவ்வொரு காரணம் சொல்லி, கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக அவரிடம் பணம் வாங்கினார். அப்படியே சேர்ந்து அது பல லட்சம் ரூபாய் ஆனது. அந்தப் பணத்தைக் கொண்டு அவருடைய மகளுக்குத் திருமணம் நடந்தது என்று தெரிந்தபோது அவர் சொன்னார்:
“பரவாயில்லை… அந்தப் பணத்தால ஒரு பெண்ணோட வாழ்க்கை நல்லா அமைஞ்சிருச்சில்ல… அதுவே போதும்.” கடைசி வரை அந்தப் பணத்தை அவர் திரும்பக் கேட்கவில்லை.
One man kept borrowing from him, a little at a time, with a new reason each time, until it added up to several lakh rupees. When he learned that the money had paid for the man's daughter's wedding, he said:
“Never mind… that money gave a young woman a good life, didn't it? That is enough.” He never asked for it back.
இழந்த பணத்தை அவர் கணக்கிடவில்லை; பிறர் வாழ்வில் வந்த நன்மையையே கணக்கிட்டார்.He never counted the money he lost; he counted the good it brought to someone's life.
நம்பிக்கைHope
அவர் நம்பிக்கையோடு வாழ்ந்தவர் மட்டுமல்ல — மற்றவர்களுக்கே நம்பிக்கை ஊட்டியவர்!
He did not only live with hope — he gave hope to others!
கர்த்தர் வெறுமையிலிருந்துதான் உலகத்தைப் படைத்தார். கையில் எல்லாம் இருந்துதான் தொடங்க வேண்டும் என்பதில்லை… நம்பிக்கையோடு தொடங்கணும்.The Lord created the world out of nothing. You don't need everything in hand to begin… begin with hope.

ஒரு மெடல் — ஒரு நிறுவனத்தின் அடையாளம்One medal, one institution's emblem
சிறுவனாக வேலூரில் ஒரு கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் இருந்தபோது, கிடைத்த வாய்ப்பைப் பயன்படுத்திப் பேசினார்; அந்தப் பேச்சுக்கு ஒரு மெடல் கிடைத்தது. பிற்காலத்தில் அதுவே ஒரு நிறுவனத்தின் அடையாளமாக மாறியது. அதன் தாரக மந்திரம்: “ஜெபி · நேசி · செயல்படு.”
As a boy on a college campus in Vellore, he seized a chance to speak and won a medal for it. Years later that medal became the emblem of an institution, with its motto: “Pray · Love · Act.”
இதயம் எச்சரித்தது; நம்பிக்கை நடத்தியதுHis heart warned him; his hope led him on
2002-ல் இதயத்தின் மூன்று வால்வுகளில் அடைப்பு இருப்பது கண்டறியப்பட்டது. ஆனால் அவர் ஒரு இதய நோயாளி என்று யாருமே அறிய முடியாத அளவுக்குச் சுறுசுறுப்பாக இருந்தார். அந்தக் கவலையை மனதில் சுமக்கவில்லை; எந்த அறுவை சிகிச்சையும் இன்றி, பல ஆண்டுகள் கம்பீரமாக வாழ்ந்தார்.
உடல்நிலை சரியில்லாத நேரத்தில்கூட “எப்படி இருக்கீங்க?” என்று கேட்டால், “நல்லா இருக்கேன்!” என்று புன்னகையோடு சொல்லுவார்.
In 2002, blockages were found in three of his heart valves. Yet he was so active that no one would have guessed. He never carried the worry in his mind and, without any surgery, went on living with dignity for many years.
Even when he was unwell, if you asked how he was, he would smile and say, “I'm doing well!”
அந்த ஒரு வார்த்தை சொன்ன செய்தி: பிரச்சனையைப் பார்த்து பயப்படாதே — பிரச்சனையைவிடப் பெரிய நம்பிக்கை உன்னிடம் இருக்கட்டும்!That one reply carried a message: don't fear the problem — let your hope be bigger than it!
எப்போதும் துடிப்புடன்Energetic
அவருடைய வேகத்தைப் பார்த்தால் அவருடைய வயதைக் கணக்கிடவே முடியாது. கிடுகிடுவென்று நடப்பார். கைப்பிடித்து அழைத்துச் செல்ல யாராவது வந்தால், “நான் நடந்துக்குவேன்!” என்பார்.
Watching his pace, you could never guess his age. He walked briskly, and if anyone offered a hand to help him along, he would say, “I can walk on my own!”
வயது முதிர்ந்த காலத்திலும் திருச்சபையின் மாற்றத்துக்கு நம்பிக்கை நட்சத்திரமாக இருந்தார். அவர் இருக்கும் இடத்தில் உற்சாகமும் நேர்மறை ஆற்றலும் நிறைந்திருக்கும். உடல்நிலை சரியில்லாவிட்டாலும் ஒருபோதும் தளர்ந்து போகமாட்டார்.
Even in his later years he was a guiding star for change in the church. Wherever he was, there was enthusiasm and positive energy. Even when unwell, he never let himself slow down.
அவருடைய ஆற்றல் உடம்பிலிருந்து வந்ததல்ல — மனதிலிருந்து வந்தது!His energy did not come from his body — it came from his mind!
விழுந்தாலும் எழுபவர்Resilient
அவருக்கு வெற்றி என்பது தோல்வியே இல்லாத வாழ்க்கை அல்ல; தோல்வி வந்தாலும் அதை முடிவாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாத வாழ்க்கை.
For him, success was not a life without failure; it was a life that never accepted failure as the end.
முப்பது ஆண்டுப் போராட்டம்A thirty-year fight
1995-ல் பணி ஓய்வு பெற்றும் ஓய்வூதியப் பலன் கிடைக்கவில்லை. 2017-ல் விண்ணப்பித்தார், காத்திருந்தார், பல எதிர்ப்புகளைச் சந்தித்தார். 2023-ல் நீதிமன்றத்தை நாடினார். “முப்பது ஆண்டுகள் கடந்துவிட்டன, இனி ஜெயிக்க முடியாது” என்று எல்லோரும் சொன்னார்கள்.
உடல் சோர்ந்த நேரத்திலும் மனம் சோரவில்லை; படுக்கையில் இருந்த நேரத்திலும் போராட்டம் நிற்கவில்லை. இறுதியில் வெற்றி வந்தது — ஓய்வூதியப் பலன் அவர் கைகளில் வந்து சேர்ந்தது.
He retired in 1995, but his pension benefits were never paid. In 2017 he applied, waited, and met resistance at every turn. In 2023 he went to court. Everyone said that after nearly thirty years he could never win.
His body tired, but his spirit did not; even from his bed, the fight went on. In the end, victory came — the pension finally reached his hands.
